Some registered or licensed Opticians design and fit specialized appliances to correct cosmetic, traumatic or physical defects. Other registered or licensed Opticians may also design and manufacture lenses as well as spectacle frames and other devices.
• Optometric Technician (LA) - Optometric technicians assist optometrists in performing a variety of tasks such as recording patient medical histories and helping prepare patients for the vision examinations. They also assist with tests that include patient pre-testing for visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, pupil reflexes, visual field testing, pressure inside the eye, and blood pressure. Optometric technicians may also be asked to assist with eye exercises and vision therapy. Optometric technicians are usually supervised by an optometrist to ensure patient health and well being.
